You rolled onto your side at the sound of a roar, which had been your wake-up call for a while now. Seeing that the clock was reading four in the morning, you groaned and turned back over, only to find the other side of the bed empty.

"Lukas?" you muttered, patting the empty space in the bed where your boyfriend should have been. When you got no response, you decided it would be best to follow the sound you'd heard earlier, so you pushed the covers away and got out of bed to make your way into the barn.

The barn had one purpose, caring for the injured creatures that came your way. Several months ago, an injured dragon crashed into the structure in the middle of the night, waking you and Lukas. You had both rushed out to protect it from the dragon attacking it before tending to the dragon.

The next day was spent fixing up the barn and assessing the wounds on the dragon, which you soon discovered was an expecting female. You told Lukas, who immediately said she had to stay and the two of you had called Vladimir to get some advice.

Arriving at the barn, you thought through his advice when you realised why you were being woken so early. Lukas was sitting next to a large tin bath, in which a small blue dragon was sitting. The adult dragon was watching with one eye as she started to fall asleep, another two baby dragons, already clean, curled up against her for warmth.

"Ah, (y/n), there you are. Did she wake you?" Lukas questioned, looking up from the dragon he has cleaning to notice you. You nodded and approached, only getting a few feet away from your boyfriend before the baby dragon squirted water at you.

You gasped as the warm water soaked through your jacket and into your pyjamas it was covering. You were even more surprised when you heard a chuckle, something extremely rare, from Lukas. He was wearing one of his small smiles as he patted the dragon in the head and you found you couldn't stay mad at him.

"So this is why you weren't in bed when I woke up, on my birthday no less" you complained, though he could tell you were joking.

"Well, it looks like you might end up sharing your birthday celebrations today" he added, but you weren't listening. You were too busy playing with the turquoise baby dragon that was sat beside you.

"I don't think I mind sharing with these cuties, as long as we can celebrate alone tonight" you told him. Lukas' smile never dropped, thinking of the small velvet box that was waiting for you in his bedside cabinet.
